Housing
When visiting Korea, be aware that
the cost of housing in Korea is rather expensive. There are three
types of housing options: buy, yearly lease, and monthly rent. If
you plan on being in Korea for a short period of time monthly rent
or yearly lease is advisable.
In a yearly lease there is no
actually "rent." You give the landlord a rather
large "deposit" called "key money." Key
money can range from 5,000,000 million won to 200,000,000 million
won or more. The cost may be steep but remember it is only a deposit.
The deposit is returned when the yearly lease is up.
Another
way to pay for housing is to pay monthly rent. Some places
may require "Key money" and some may not. The average
deposit is 1,000,000 million to 5,000,000 million won with monthly
rent of 250,000 won to 500,000 won. "Key money" is always
returned to the depositor.
Remember, utilities are often not
included.
If find a job, your employer will provide either
shared or single occupancy housing. Another option may be
for your employer to give you a housing allowance of 250,000 to
400,000 won.
